“In the IFS world we often say ‘all parts welcome’ to express an openness and welcoming to our nuanced, complex, and sometimes contradictory ways of being.”

All Parts Welcome:

A Workbook Created With and For Queer and Trans People

Queer and trans people often learn to hide, split off, or exile parts of ourselves—not because there’s anything wrong with us, but because we live in a world that hasn’t always welcomed our truths. As Sand C. Chang writes, “We typically don’t expect all of our parts to be welcomed—because they haven’t been.”

All Parts Welcome offers a spacious, trauma-informed guide to healing grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS). You’ll learn to work with your inner world gently, from a place of curiosity and compassion.

This book helps you:

  • Get guided, step-by-step support—not just theory

  • Learn to understand your internal world through the IFS framework

  • Build a compassionate relationship with all your parts

  • Explore how culture shapes your inner system

  • Work through trauma and internalized oppression

  • Access and cultivate Self energy—your capacity for healing and internal leadership

  • Reconnect with your body and reclaim trust in it

  • Engage with meditations, visualizations, and journal prompts to deepen practice

  • Be seen and held by a voice that centers queer and trans liberation

This isn’t a workbook to “fix” you. It’s a way to come home to yourself—with care, curiosity, and love—so you can move through the world with more freedom, trust, and inner clarity.

“IFS is a model that can hold the complexity and paradox of all our identities, including challenging experiences and joyful ones. Rather than simply focus on our queer or trans identities, there’s space for us to invite in all the ways that those identities intersect with other important facets of who we are: race, ethnicity, religion, class, and ability, to name a few.”

Praise for
All Parts Welcome

Richard Schwartz, PhD, developer of the IFS model

“I’m so grateful to internal family systems (IFS) trainer Sand C. Chang for writing this book. It so skillfully applies my life’s work to the queer and trans community, a group that, traditionally and particularly lately, contains some of the more persecuted exiles in our culture. I not only highly recommend it as a potent workbook for that community, but also for anyone who wants to better understand and/or help them.”

  • “I love this workbook! It’s a gentle, accessible, and nuanced guide to working with one’s internal parts, specifically for queer and trans people.”

Colleen West, LMFT, IFS consultant and author of We All Have Parts

  • “Without exaggeration, this workbook is immediately indispensable… This book is a bright star illuminating how we may become more skillful at radical belonging.”

—Ash(ley) Gregory, LMFT, Queer and Trans IFS Teaching Assistant

  • “This workbook seamlessly integrates IFS in a way that feels both accessible and transformative… a much-needed resource for healing, self-understanding, and coming home to yourself.”

    —Rebecca Minor, LICSW, gender specialist

  • “This book empowers readers to understand their inner world, address the impact of societal biases, and reclaim self-led self-care and community.”

Natalie Y. Gutiérrez, LMFT, author of The Pain We Carry

  • “Sand C. Chang lovingly guides the reader through introducing IFS theory to how this work intersects with our bodies, gender, and sexual orientation. On this journey I could feel a settling in my body, an internal understanding that as a queer and trans person this resource really is for us—a tool that connects our inner world with the external challenges of heterosexism and cis- supremacy while providing a blueprint for healing.”

—Damon Constantinides, PhD, sex therapist in private practice

  • “Sand C. Chang’s knowledge of IFS, commitment to body liberation, and fierce love of community is felt throughout this book.”

Nic Wildes, LMHC, certified IFS therapist

“There’s no magic cure outside of us that can make us whole. According to IFS, what we’re seeking is in us already. What our parts need to heal or shift into more harmonious positions is us, meaning they need Self energy. Self-to-part relationship is seen as the vehicle for healing.”
